Big Village/The Frequency Lab
Roleo
Roleo is the producer/DJ behind Sydney hip hop crew Daily Meds. With Daily Meds and other Big Village artists he has been lauded for his experimental style, taking from ‘post dilla’ beats, glitch, dubstep, classic hip hop and electronic influences and combining them into his own original sound. In April 2011, Roleo released his debut solo EP Binge Beats through local ‘Future Beats’ label The Frequency Lab. In the words of label boss Monk Fly: "ROLEO’s sound combines elements of traditional hip hop, contemporary wonky, electronic blap synth madness and glitched, pimped 8 bit flavors. BINGE BEATS has as much stagger as any rood boy or girl could hope for… an amazing debut!" Playing ‘live’ sets of mostly original material, he has supported Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer, Opiou, Harmonic 313, Hermitude and Samiyam and has played festival slots at Sub-Sonic, Regrowth and Peat’s Ridge. As producer/DJ for Daily Meds he has played with Wu-Tang Clan, DJ Premier, Evidence, Rahzel, Drapht, Urthboy and countless others. On top of this, Roleo is a talented selector and plays DJ sets of hip hop, glitch, dubstep and wonky – often combining these styles together in one set. Roleo is an active member of the Sydney hip hop and beat scene. He is heavily involved in running the Big Village label with his crew Daily Meds, who have recently released their debut full length album ‘Happy Daze’. The album has been receiving strong support from national and community broadcasters in Australia. Roleo has also released beat-tapes and mixes with Sydney collectives Free The Beats and oneofour collective
